The Asian-Indian Caucus (AIC) of ASHA, a small group of approximately 100 members, was formed in 1994 during ASHA’s Convention in New Orleans. The mission of the AIC is to establish a network, encourage exchange of scientific knowledge and collaborative research among ASHA members who are of Asian-Indian origin.
The AIC has compiled “Core References in Communication Disorders Among Asian-Indian Populations” and has published a directory of its members and a quarterly newsletter. The AIC also organizes informal meetings during ASHA’s Conventions to provide members the opportunity to mingle in a relaxed manner. In addition to providing a platform for discussion and networkinq, the AIC also helps students to locate suitable Clinical Fellowship (CFY) positions and encourages its members to participate actively in professional organizations. In the future AIC plans to compile and disseminate information on clinical tests and assessment materials validated for Asian-Indian populations.
