Since its inception in 1994 the Division on Communication Disorders and Sciences in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Populations has increased its membership by 10–20% each year. With that growth has come challenges to provide more and better services to the division affiliates. In June 2003, the Steering Committee met at ASHA headquarters to develop a strategic plan that sets forth the division's priorities and direction for 2003–2005. The plan begins with vision and mission statements and a set of guiding principles. The division priorities are identified as Focus Areas with accompanying outcomes, success indicators, and action strategies.
To be a leading resource for advancing knowledge of the influence and importance of cultural and linguistic diversity on human communication and the infusion of this knowledge into research and clinical practice.
