It is my pleasure to write this column as the new Coordinator of Special Interest Division 14 and to personally welcome each and every new and returning affiliate to the Division. My name is Nancy Lewis, and currently I work as a bilingual speech-language pathologist on a Bilingual Consultation Team in a large school district in the Denver metro area. I also consult with school districts with a focus of providing ethical speech-language service delivery to the English language learners in public school settings. If you are reading this issue of Perspectives as an affiliate of Division 14, we know that you are passionate about the delivery of quality speech, language, and hearing services to culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Not unlike the issues facing our Nation at large, Special Interest Division 14 is charged with some challenging tasks. We meet these challenges with enthusiasm and plenty of energy! Our mission is to provide leadership and advocacy for best practices relating to speech-language pathology and audiology services to culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
