Once again, as Coordinator of ASHA Special Interest Division 14, the Division that addresses the communication needs of culturally and linguistically diverse populations, I have the honor of welcoming you as a new or returning affiliate to the Division. It is always refreshing to begin a new year and to work towards advancing our field in meaningful ways.
We have been busy and I'd like to share with you some of our activities. At the 2009 ASHA annual Convention in New Orleans, we joined in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the ASHA Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA). As part of this celebration, you may have met some members of our Steering Committee (SC) who participated in a “Meet the Experts” panel hosted by the OMA. Also at the Convention, Celeste Roseberry-McKibbin offered a Division-sponsored Short Course addressing the issues of communication development and poverty. Past-president and current SC member Noma Anderson provided a seminar for us as well.
