I would like to say that it has been a pleasure to work on the newsletter for the past 2 years. At first we needed to define what should go into the newsletter and what was sought by our members. We still seek your input. Brian Goldstein is taking over as newsletter editor, as I have been appointed editor for the Journal of Children’s Communication Development (JCCD). Please send him your thoughts about future directions for the newsletter, and send me articles for publication in the journal.
As the past two issues have shown, we are trying to bring you informative articles relating to culturally and linguistically diverse populations with special topics. This issue is guest edited by Raquel Anderson with articles on child language and linguistic and cultural diversity. Thank you Raquel for your work in putting forth this excellent collection of articles. This issue contains the following articles: “Examining Language Loss in Bilingual Children” (Raquel Anderson), “Language Loss in Internationally Adopted Children” (Christen M. Pearson), “Code Switching: A Primer for Speech-Language Pathologists” (Alejandro Brice), “Expressive Vocabulary of Bilingual Toddlers: Preliminary Findings” (Janet L. Patterson), “Guidelines for the Identification of Primarily Spanish-Speaking Preschool Children with Language Impairment” (Maria Adelaida Restrepo), “The Relationship Between Self-Repair and Language Proficiency” (Erna van Hest), and “Surfing the World Wide Web: Bilingual Sites” (Raquel T. Anderson). Be sure to find all the Division 14 newsletter articles online at this world wide web address: http://vaxl.mankato.msus.edu/~brice/SID14.html. 1997 should be another busy and productive year.
