Greetings and welcome to the October issue of Perspectives. This issue covers topics across the life span. We explore practices related to hearing services with children and adults for whom English is not the primary language and conclude with an article that addresses health literacy and multicultural populations.
In the first article, Jennifer E. Weber and Mark Guiberson provide a step-by-step description of a collaborative audiometric screening program in rural Colorado for preschoolers who are English language learners. As you know, the success of any hearing screening program lies in its ability to identify children, preferably at a young age, with a hearing loss that may impede their development. Have you ever been faced with conducting audiometric screenings in a less-than-ideal environment with children who speak a language other than your own? If so, Weber and Guiberson have some real-world strategies for you to make this task successful.
